The
exact origin of Golf is not known , though
it is assumed that golf had its origin in
the medival era in the game of shepherds who
used to hit pebbles with their sticks.
However golf developed and came into its
present form in Scotland. The word Golf
derives from the medival Dutch word ‘Kolf’
or ‘Kolve’ meaning ‘club’. The word
underwent a change when the Scots adopted it
and the present word came into existence by
sixteenth century.In the nineteenth century India became the first country outside Britain to adopt the game of golf. Established in 1829, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club is today the oldest Golf Club in India. Golf, as a game has developed a lot since the time it was introduced first. The first ever Golf competition for the Asian Games was held in Delhi.
In India, golf courses are located almost in every kind of place- from hills to plains; from deserts to beach resorts. It is as though a trip to the golf courses in India will simultaneously initiate a trip to the most beautiful and diverse places in the country.

In the year 1892 the first Amateur Golf Championship of India was held at the Royal Golf Club.However,the tag of ‘Royal’ was itself attached to the club after the visit of King GeorgeV and Queen Mary in 1911. The best time to play in this 18 holes course is from October to March.

The Delhi Golf club was the host for the very first golf competition at the Asian games held in 1982. The club provides facilities of cart, swimming, bar, catering, health pubs.
